We all love those early mornings

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010 Posted in Canada, Funny, Of The Day, Performance Art | No Comments »

Our friends over at yourKloset have put together a great little video (with two ‘average’ looking individuals, if we do say so ourselves) making light of the early morning struggle so many of us face. If I were that dude, I’d have a tough time leaving the bed after waking up with her, too… This short is called a “Fashion Film” and is really well done. Enjoy!

I posted recently about the amazing Ninja Unboxing video that Google sponsored. If you haven’t seen it yet, you should! Check this one out, too -- another Google-sponsored video, quite impressive:

The most impressive proposal? Maybe!

Wednesday, March 17th, 2010 Posted in Cool, How To, Inspirational, Of The Day, Performance Art | No Comments »

As taken from Vimeo:

This long exposure, and the making of footage, were shot over three nights in Raleigh, North Carolina as a proposal to Emily Kern.

The words “Emily, will you marry me?” Were spelled out in light writing. The final image is made up of approximately 800 individual 10 second exposures.

Both the Time lapse and video were shot with Canon 7Ds.

When I get older, I will be stronger, they’ll call me freedom

This is a beautiful, inspirational song written and originally performed by K’naan, a Somalian-born Torontonian musician. This rendition showcases an incredibly impressive roster of Canadian talent, making up Young Artists for Haiti. Have a look and listen, it gave me the “proud to be Canadian” shivers…

Special thanks to our boy, Alfredo.

The NorthGeek HowTo Series: Play guitar like Slash

Thursday, November 26th, 2009 Posted in Funny, How To, Music, Performance Art | No Comments »

We at NorthGeek feel bad. Why, you ask? Well, we feel bad because we have so much darn talent, and it’s tough for us to share it all.

Enter: The Internet. Thanks to this relatively new invention called The Internet, and a small property on this Internet called “YouTube” -- I know, funny name -- we can share our talents with you -- the world. Here is chapter one:

Best ski movies of the year

Thursday, October 8th, 2009 Posted in Performance Art, Sports, Travel | No Comments »

If you’re an avid skier, you probably can’t help but get stoked for the upcoming season as by watching the new crop of ski flicks. You’ve definitely heard of Warren Miller, and perhaps also Teton Gravity Research and Matchstick Productions.

These guys spend lots of money to make their movies and ski in areas you will never afford. So maybe what resonates more are the soulful movies of the guys and gals who do it themselves. Here are the best alternative ski movies of the year (at least the teasers):

Earn your turns! Check out these breathtaking powder telemark lines and remote controlled helicopter camera shots. Ooh! Powderwhore’s “Flakes” great trailer:

Live in the East? Don’t think skiing isn’t as adventurous or extreme out there? Proof to go out and explore your own backyard: Meathead Films flick “Wild Stallions”

How gorgeous is the skiing in Japan? “The Japanese compare January to the womb,” says filmmaker Nick Waggoner. “When the snow flows over your head, you can’t tell up from down, and it just becomes you.” Colorado’s Sweet Grass Productions’ “Signatures”:

If you’re still here, sure, check out the big budget flicks too:

Matchstick Productions’ In Deep teaser:

TGR’s Re:Session:

Warren Miller trailer is on their site.
